Believe it or not, this is one of my favourite photos.
I think there comes a time in some people's lives where they look around and survey the state they are in. They survey the people and the things that are going on around them and they decide that it should be decidedly different. They stand up and move completely away from what they were before.
That's how I feel with photography right now. I'm seeing the same patterns over and over again and it's so tiring. I long for a new dimension in expression and thought and I am constantly met by recycled ideas and cliched emotions.
We recently lost all of our photo data, around 500gb worth of time, effort, and creativity, to a massive hard drive crash. I spent hours pouring over what was left of the drive with forensic data tools only to be disappointed. However, this seems to be just one thing in a series of losses. I feel like the universe is preparing us for something big. Something drastic. I feel that parts of our lives have been systematically stripped away in 2011 in such a way that we are left with only the basics now, or what I think is the basics, but I am usually shown otherwise.
In any case, it's time for a new direction. White Hot Phoenix is now two years old. Plenty of time to start making marks on the world.
